My inspiration
“A good speech should be like a woman's skirt: long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest”
― Winston Churchill
Here I am writing my
first blog about what inspired me to become an effective Master of the
Ceremony. The inspiration to write came from my aunt who told me that I
should pen down my thoughts not knowing I am not even one percent close
to her writing skills. So before I start let me thank her wholeheartedly.
I was a highly confused and shy kid and in love with every street dog I
met and my passion to serve and heal them growing up thinking of
becoming a veterinary doctor. "If wishes were horses beggars would
ride". My tenth percentage was too low to get me Science. Soon I am going
to share something personal about my childhood and it might inspire any
kid who has been through this.― Winston Churchill
For ten years of my childhood I have suffered epilepsy not knowing in my childhood what is epilepsy. All I knew was a horrible middle school life(till my tenth class) and was slow and shy. I was always scared to talk to the teacher, has not participated in any debate or quiz . Even the next door cat was less terrified of me to go the school and get beaten up and teased by other kids because you are the shy one. My parents sacrificed a lot to treat me from the best neurologist and told me to have faith in God. For me saying a poetry in the class in front of all the kids was impossible.
After my class tenth ,the doctor certified that I am no more epileptic. Then the real challenge came, how to overcome all the things I have missed. The medication for ten years makes your memory very weak. That's the point I think I decided to change myself completely. Well you all must be thinking why is she telling about her childhood and how is it even related to being a Master of Ceremony.
It is often quoted that "public speaking is more scary than death". Humans evolved as social animals to defend themselves from predators and other threats. Being rejected from the group was probably as good as death for early humans, left to survive on their own. We fear public speaking because we fear rejection, equating this on a primal level with the risk of dying alone.
During my high school and college I started tutoring which I totally loved and the feedback was good. It would have been my first baby step of becoming an effective Master of Ceremony. Well more to come.
One bright sunny day I came across a person who became a very good friend in my life told me out of the blue moon that I can become a good Master of ceremony. I thought joke of the century not knowing good things are stored for me in the future too.
In my next blog I am going to write how to be an effective Master of Ceremony/Public Speaker for newcomers..Hope you all like my first blog. Feedback is most welcome but not in the form of slang...:)
